October was an extremely busy month here at Conservation Volunteers as we geared up for Conservation Week, 14th – 22nd October. Our dedicated volunteers celebrated Conservation Week at Brooky Equestrian River Habitat, Brookby Wildlife Habitat, Selwyn Bush, Waharau Regional Park and Atiu Creek Regional Park with tree planting, nursery activities, track maintenance, removing invasive species and litter clean ups. Our two teams of residential volunteers partook in a photography competition with the winning team scoring the grand prize of tickets to Auckland Zoo and a box of New Zealand themed snacks, souvenirs and goodies.
Conservation Week Raffle
Our biggest event was our Conservation Week fundraising raffle. We were very generously donated some amazing products for our hamper from Blunt Umbrellas, Penny Sage, AllPress Espresso, BeeWrapt, The Organic Mechanic, Plant Food, General Sleep Store, Etico, Earthwise, Only Good, Ti Ora, Meals in Steel, Green Trading, Karma Cola, Ceres Organics, Raw Kaya Organics and Manuka Health. We sold tickets across Conservation Week with great success raising over $1,800 towards our work. Some of these proceeds will go towards the purchase of a Wai-Care Kit which will allow us to do base line and ongoing water testing on some of our sites so that we can analyse water quality and hopefully see measurable improvements in years to come as our programmes progress. This can also be used as an educational resource on projects with schools and other groups to teach about the pollutants common in our waterways. The remaining funds will buy new tools and plant trees around Auckland.
A huge thank you to our generous contributors:
