Climbing Asparagus

.

Climbing Asparagus (Asparagus scandens) was introduced to New Zealand as an ornamental garden plant and is one of four species in this family that are regarded as invasive pest plants. It has feathery fern-like leaves and creeps across the ground smothering native seedlings and established plants – it can even grow in the deep shade provided by established forests. Learning to identify and remove this plant before it gets established will help prevent its spread. Check out the video and resources below for information on how to remove this plant and protect our native forests!
