John Williams

John Williams, Conservation Work Skills Team Leader, Auckland - Conservation Volunteers New Zealand

John served for 7 years with the British Royal Marine Commandos, specialising in counter piracy and illegal trafficking, leading small teams and training forces from various nations around the globe. Thanks to these privileged travel opportunities, he was inspired to pursue a career in conservation and completed a BSc (Hons) in Ocean Science and Marine Conservation.

He moved to Aotearoa with his wife in July 2022 and has since worked as a Marine Reserve Ranger with DOC and in ecological restoration with Wildland Consultants Ltd, both of which he thoroughly enjoyed. Having volunteered with CVNZ in the past, John’s thrilled to be leading the Auckland CWS program as he’s passionate about sharing knowledge of the natural world and encouraging kaitiakitanga.

When not hunting weeds and playing in the mud, John spends his time doing CrossFit, sea swimming and listening to science podcasts, though not usually all at once.
