Conservation Work Skills Team Leader – Auckland

Conservation Volunteers is a national, not-for-profit, community-based organisation that is dedicated to involving volunteers in conservation projects for the betterment of Aotearoa’s environment.  Each year we engage thousands of volunteers on meaningful conservation projects across the country.  By becoming a member of the Conservation Volunteers team, you will be using your passion for conservation to enable this work to continue.

Conservation Work Skills (CWS) is an initiative developed by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) that supports local conservation projects to meet their environmental objectives. The CWS programme provides opportunities for ten local job seekers to gain paid employment for three months. During this period, participants will develop practical skills in conservation (planting, weeding, nursery work, predator control, track construction etc), obtain industry training (Chainsaw, GrowSafe, First Aid) while working on local conservation projects aimed at supporting threatened species recovery and improving water quality.

We are now seeking to employ a Conservation Work Skills Team Leader.

Conservation Work Skills Team Leader, Auckland

The Conservation Work Skills (CWS) Team Leader is responsible for the safety, welfare, training and supervision of participants on practical conservation projects.

The CWS Leader has a unique opportunity to make an important contribution to the health of the local environment while at the same time supporting the development of conservation skills and experience for ten local job seekers who will be employed by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) for the duration of the project.

The CWS Programme is a partnership between CVNZ and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

Essential Qualifications & Experience 

  • Full Drivers Licence
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Defensive Driving certificate (can obtain)
  • Work Health and Safety (can obtain through CVNZ)
  • Ministry of Justice Check

The above qualifications are only required before actually working as a CWS Team Leader.  For qualifications, other than a Full Driver’s Licence, not already in place at time of employment including Senior First Aid and Defensive Driving Certificate, assistance is available from CVNZ in obtaining those qualifications.

This position is full time Maximum Term Contract – 4 months located in Auckland
