The Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour plan is a partnership between the communities of Whakaraupō/Lyttleton Harbour and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, Environment Canterbury, Christchurch City Council, Lyttleton Port Company (LPC) and Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke. Its aim is to restore the ecological and cultural health of the harbour, enabling it to once again be a mahinga kai for the people of the harbour and generations to come.
Working alongside members of the local community, CVNZ have been involved in various projects around the harbour over the past two years as part of the Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour project. These projects have included helping with ecological restoration by planting, releasing native plantings and control of invasive weed species at Living Springs, Orton Bradley Farm Park, Urumau Reserve, Sage Reserve, Rāpaki Marae and Port Saddle above Lyttleton. CVNZ have also worked alongside community groups in Diamond Harbour, Church Bay and Cass Bay.
